The Phaser 3020 printer and its MFP sibling WorkCentre 3025 are past their support prime, and their drivers confuse a lot of people: the box CD predates Windows 10/11, and the printer disappears or refuses to install after upgrades. The official packages still exist and work - you just need the right ones in the right order.
Quick answer
Download the Print driver package for your model and Windows version from xerox.com support (search "Phaser 3020" or "WorkCentre 3025", section Drivers & Downloads), install it, then plug in USB when the installer asks. For scanning on the WorkCentre 3025, additionally install the Scan driver (TWAIN/WIA) package from the same page.
Windows Update does not always carry these models, so a plug-and-play install finds nothing and the printer stays unknown.
Drivers installed years ago on Windows 7/8 stop loading after upgrades - the printer needs the current package from the support page.
On the WorkCentre 3025, printing and scanning install from different packages - installing only the print driver leaves the scanner dead.
The 3020BI/3025BI connect over Wi-Fi Direct or WPS; without the setup step the driver has no port to print to.
