VCRUNTIME140_1.dll is the youngest member of the Visual C++ runtime family: Microsoft added it in the 2019 release of the 2015-2022 Redistributable. That explains the most common situation - your PC does have Visual C++ 2015 or 2017 installed, VCRUNTIME140.dll is right there, but the newer _1 companion is missing because the runtime was never updated. A current program built with Visual Studio 2019 or later then refuses to start. One update of the runtime from Microsoft fixes it.

Download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2015-2022 from Microsoft's official site - the x64 package is the one that matters here, install the x86 one too for 32-bit programs - and restart. The installer upgrades the old runtime in place and adds VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.
Visual C++ 2015 and 2017 shipped without this file. The installed package looks fine and covers older software - until a program built with the 2019+ toolchain asks for the _1 file.
VCRUNTIME140_1.dll exists only for 64-bit programs. If just the x86 redistributable got updated, 64-bit apps still find no file.
Interrupted updates or cleanup tools can corrupt runtime files. Then even a recent package fails until it is repaired.
A single downloaded VCRUNTIME140_1.dll rarely matches the rest of your runtime version - it trades this error for random crashes, and DLL sites are a known malware channel.
Stay safe: only Microsoft's site. The redistributable is the single legitimate source of this file - and it costs nothing.
sfc /scannow, then DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.Because the _1 file arrived later, with the 2019 update of the same runtime. Having VCRUNTIME140.dll only proves an older 2015-2017 package is installed; updating to the current 2015-2022 release adds the companion. Our VCRUNTIME140.dll guide covers the base file.
VCRUNTIME140_1.dll exists only in the 64-bit runtime - 32-bit programs never ask for it. Installing x86 too is still a good habit: the other runtime files of 32-bit programs live there.
No - the 2015-2022 runtime is backward compatible by design. Updating it is exactly what Microsoft recommends, and older software keeps working.
Outbyte PC Repair checks the system and shows what it found - then waits. Nothing is applied without your OK, and a restore point lets you undo changes.
