d3dx9_30.dll is one of the D3DX helper libraries of DirectX 9 - the number 30 marks the mid-2006 release, so the games asking for it are classics of that era. Windows 10 and 11 do not include any of the d3dx9 files; they only ever arrived with game installers or with Microsoft's DirectX End-User Runtime. That runtime is still free and still works - one run restores d3dx9_30.dll together with every sibling number, from 24 to 43.

Download the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Microsoft's official site and run it. It adds the complete legacy DirectX 9 set - d3dx9_30.dll included - alongside the modern DirectX your Windows already has. Then start the game again.
Windows 10/11 include modern DirectX only. The d3dx9 helpers were optional extras that game installers of the 2000s brought along - a fresh system starts without them.
After a reinstall or on a new PC, the first classic game you set up surfaces this error - nothing has installed the old runtime yet.
Installers of that era offered a bundled DirectX step that people cancel - the game then starts without its runtime present.
There are dozens of d3dx9 files in the runtime. Dropping in one downloaded DLL leads to the next number complaining - and DLL sites carry real malware risk.
Stay safe: only Microsoft's own site. The End-User Runtime is the legitimate source of every d3dx9 DLL.
The number is the release of the D3DX library the game was built against - 30 is mid-2006, 43 is the final 2010 one. Games load their exact number, which is why the full End-User Runtime, carrying all of them, beats hunting individual files; our D3DX9_43.dll guide covers the most common sibling.
DirectX versions are not backward-replacing - a game built on DirectX 9 loads the d3dx9 helpers by name, and DirectX 12 does not contain them. The runtime installs the old files alongside, exactly as Microsoft intends.
It can work - and the next launch often asks for another number anyway. The official installer puts the complete set where every game finds it, in one run, with no guesswork.
Outbyte PC Repair checks the system and shows what it found - then waits. Nothing is applied without your OK, and a restore point lets you undo changes.
