d3dcompiler_43.dll compiles shaders for games of the DirectX 9-11 transition era - and like the rest of the old DirectX helper files, Windows 10 and 11 simply do not include it. An older game on a modern or freshly reinstalled PC asks for a file the system never had. Microsoft still distributes it in the free DirectX End-User Runtime; one installer run fixes this error and its siblings (d3dx9_43, xinput1_3) in one go.

Download the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Microsoft's official site and run it. It installs the legacy DirectX libraries - d3dcompiler_43.dll among them - alongside the modern DirectX your Windows already has. Then start the game again.
Windows 10/11 ship modern DirectX only. The d3dcompiler and d3dx9 helpers were optional extras that game installers used to bring along - a fresh system starts without them.
After a reinstall, the first older game you set up is the one that surfaces this error - nothing has installed the old runtime yet.
Classic installers offered a DirectX checkbox people cancel - the game then launches without its runtime present.
The runtime is a set of dozens of matched files. One downloaded DLL leads to the next name complaining - and DLL sites carry real malware risk.
Stay safe: only Microsoft's own site. The End-User Runtime is the one legitimate source of d3dcompiler_43.dll.
DirectX versions are not backward-replacing: a game built against the old shader compiler loads it by name, and DirectX 12 does not contain it. The End-User Runtime adds the old files alongside - exactly as Microsoft intends.
Same family, same fix - both ship in the DirectX End-User Runtime. If you ran the full installer, that error is covered too; our D3DX9_43.dll guide has the details.
It often starts a chain - the next launch asks for another runtime file. The official installer puts all of them where every game finds them, in one run.
Outbyte PC Repair checks the system and shows what it found - then waits. Nothing is applied without your OK, and a restore point lets you undo changes.
